A Perfect Sunday Morning in CDMX: Your Mexico City Weekend Plans

Got a Weekend in Mexico City? Here’s Everything You Need to Do

There’s nothing quite like waking up in Mexico City after surviving a long-haul flight. After what felt like an eternity in the air, we landed in CDMX. We arrived at the apartment, dropped the bags and went out to explore.

Breakfast at Panadería Rosetta: A Must for Your CMDX Itinerary

After a fun night, we got a great sleep, it was time to wake up and before long, we were out the door and ready to hit the streets. First stop? The now-legendary Panadería Rosetta to get our hands on that viral guava roll.

“Get there early and beat the crowds,” they said. So we rocked up at 9am – long before the so-called brunch rush – only to be greeted by not one, not two, but three massive queues. One for sit-in, one for takeaway, and one for collection. My immediate thought? This better be worth it.

But fair play – the staff were on it. They even brought out samples to keep the queue happy while we waited. And just when I thought things couldn’t get better, I spotted PickUp Coffee right next door. Shoutout to my TikTok pal Dani (if you’re not following her, sort yourself out) for putting me onto this one. PickUp is a big deal in the Philippines and has only recently set up shop in Mexico. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to try their dirty horchata (caliente, I’ll have you know) – and even ordered it in Spanish. I’d like to apologise to the very patient barista who endured my questionable pronunciation. She was as patient as I was slow!

Pickup Coffee MX – As recommended by my personal CDMX Guru, Dani! Close enough on the name…

By the time we finally bagged a table, I’d already mentally devoured the menu about 1,000 times. So when the food arrived – an absolute banquet of freshly baked heaven – I was ready. Every single bite was perfection. The guava roll? Sweet, tangy, and melt-in-your-mouth soft. The tamales? Perfection.Totally worth the wait.

Muévete en Bici – Mexico City’s Sunday Cycle

Fuelled up and buzzing on sugar and caffeine, we wandered through Condesa and back into Roma – the heart of Mexico City’s Sunday cycling scene. Every Sunday, the city shuts down its major roads, transforming them into a car-free playground for runners, cyclists, skaters, and walkers. It’s honestly magical. Imagine gliding down the middle of Paseo de la Reforma with thousands of Chilangos (that’s Mexico City locals to you and me) – the wide, tree-lined boulevard suddenly reclaimed by the people. The usual chaos of traffic and honking horns? Replaced by the soft hum of bicycle wheels and the chatter of families and friends soaking up the sunshine.

Domingo En Bici at Paseo de la Reforma

Getting involved was ridiculously easy. We downloaded Ecobici from the Google Play store, found the nearest docking station with two bikes, and off we went. The system’s slick – tap a few buttons, scan a code, and you’re rolling. We cruised past grand monuments, colourful murals, and lively street vendors. The energy was unreal – locals on rollerblades, toddlers in mini bikes, teenagers weaving in and out of the crowd like pros. Other cities need to take notes. Turning city streets into public spaces like this? Game-changing.

After working up an appetite (and slightly regretting the extra pastry), we ditched the bikes and wandered over to Tortas al Fuego. Let me save you the hassle of deciding – just order the gringas. Warm tortillas, all the levels of spice you can handle, melted cheese… Honestly, thank me later.

By the time we rolled ourselves home, full and sun-kissed, I was already counting down the days until the next Sunday in CDMX. This city? It just knows how to do weekends right.
