We were driving back to base on day one of our Gran Canaria road trip when the evening light began doing that very specific glowy thing it does on this beautiful island. You know the one. Softer, warmer, slower. Magical.
The sky suddenly turned golden, the clouds thinned out, and we clocked a mirador just ahead. So we pulled in. And honestly, we’re still talking about it.
I genuinely think Mirador Astronómico de la Degollada de las Yeguas is hard to beat. Perched high above the valley between Maspalomas and Fataga, this viewpoint offers sweeping views of dramatic volcanic landscapes, winding ravines and the distant coastline.
Unlike popular spots such as Roque Nublo, there’s no hike required to enjoy the view. Simply park up, find a spot overlooking the valley and watch as the mountains glow orange, pink and gold. When we arrived, a couple were just leaving. For most of the time we were there, we had the mirador completely to ourselves. As we were getting ready to go, another car pulled in, clearly chasing the same sunset we were, but alas, a little late to the party.
