It isn’t a huge place, so I wouldn’t necessarily build an entire trip around it, but as a day trip or road trip stop it’s brilliant. The village is famous for its cave houses and streets that sit directly under huge slabs of rock, which makes it feel completely different from the other white villages in southern Spain.
The best part is that you don’t need to over-plan it. Setenil is the kind of place where you can wander, stop for a coffee or tapas under the rocks, take a few photos and move at a slower pace for a couple of hours.

You only need around 2 to 4 hours to see the highlights in Setenil de las Bodegas, but you can spend longer to really soak up the atmosphere if time permits.

Next, wander over to Calle Cuevas de la Sombra, which has a completely different feel. As the name suggests, this street is much shadier, with the rock hanging dramatically overhead.
After that, walk up towards Mirador del Carmen for one of the best views over Setenil. It’s a short climb, but it gives you a much better sense of how the whole village is built into the gorge.
If you have time, stop for a drink or lunch before leaving. Setenil is best enjoyed slowly, even if you’re only there for a short visit.

Yes, you can easily visit Setenil de las Bodegas and Ronda in one day, and this is probably one of the best ways to see it.

If you’re driving, I’d recommend visiting Ronda first, then stopping in Setenil afterwards, or doing Setenil in the morning before heading to Ronda for the afternoon and sunset.

The easiest way to visit Setenil de las Bodegas is by car. The village is tucked inland in Andalusia, so public transport can be limited and slower than you’d expect.
From Ronda, Setenil de las Bodegas is around 20 minutes by car, which makes it an easy add-on if you’re already in the area.
From Málaga, the drive usually takes around 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on traffic and your exact starting point.
From Seville, it takes around 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours by car, so it’s possible as a day trip, but it works better if you combine it with Ronda or stay overnight nearby.
Where to park in Setenil de las Bodegas
Parking in Setenil de las Bodegas can be a little fiddly because the village is small, hilly and built around narrow streets.
If you’re visiting by car, it’s best to aim for one of the public parking areas on the edge of the village rather than trying to drive right into the centre. From there, you can walk down into the main cave streets.
Try to arrive earlier in the day if you’re visiting in peak season, at weekends or during Spanish holidays, as spaces can fill up quickly.
