Arona Gran Hotel Tenerife Review: Is It Worth Staying Here?

Spring Arona Gran Hotel Tenerife Review: Is It Worth Staying Here?

If you’re looking for an adults-only hotel in Tenerife that works just as well for lazy pool days as it does for exploring the island, Spring Arona Gran Hotel is one to have on your radar. We stayed for seven nights in August 2026, using the hotel as our base for a Tenerife road trip, and we’ve already talked about going back.

We wanted a nice mix of relaxing stay and adventure base. Somewhere we could disappear from for an entire day, but actually look forward to coming back to at night. Arona Gran absolutely nailed that brief.

Quick answer: is Arona Gran Hotel worth staying at?

Yes. Spring Arona Gran Hotel is a four-star, adults-only hotel in Los Cristianos, Tenerife. I’d particularly recommend it for couples who want the facilities of a resort without feeling like they need to spend their entire holiday inside one.

You’ve got two large swimming pools, a jacuzzi, an excellent gym and huge breakfast and dinner buffets, while the Los Cristianos seafront promenade is right outside. We also found it a brilliant base for exploring Tenerife by car, with easy access to the island’s main roads and free street parking nearby.

If you’re happy spending the day beside the pool, you absolutely can. If you’d rather grab the car and disappear into the mountains, that works too. That’s probably what I liked most about staying here.

Our seven-night stay at Spring Arona Gran Hotel

First, an important disclosure. We didn’t actually pay for this stay.

My partner won a seven-night stay with Spring Hotels in a competition. It had absolutely nothing to do with Irish Travel Addict, Spring Hotels had no involvement in this review and, honestly, we thought the competition win was a joke at first because we never win anything.

We were given a choice of Spring Hotels properties across Tenerife and eventually settled on Arona Gran. The adults-only set-up appealed to us, but if I’m being completely superficial for a second, the hotel itself also just looked gorgeous.

Half-board hadn’t been mentioned as part of the prize, so we’d already planned to pay to add it ourselves. When we arrived, we discovered that was included too. Result!

And then things got even better.

What is Spring Arona Gran Hotel actually like?

I’d seen plenty of photos of the lobby before arriving, but they didn’t really prepare me for seeing it in person.

Plants pour down from the internal balconies above you, creating this enormous waterfall of greenery through the centre of the hotel. Against the crisp, clean interiors, it makes what could have been a pretty standard large hotel atrium feel completely different.

My immediate comparison was Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, minus the vortex.

Plant waterfall - the stunning interior of the Arona Gran hotel in Tenerife

It feels fresh, vibrant and surprisingly relaxing for such a big space, and it became one of the things I remembered most about the hotel. We were also handed welcome drinks when we arrived, which was a lovely touch after travelling.

That first impression pretty much carried throughout the hotel. Arona Gran feels premium without being particularly stuffy.

What are the rooms like at Spring Arona Gran Hotel?

Our competition prize was for a standard room, but that’s not actually where we ended up staying.

We arrived quite late and the hotel was fully booked, with a suite still available on the fourth floor, so reception upgraded us. The couple checking in beside us got the same treatment. I’m putting this firmly down to very lucky timing rather than something I’d ever expect when booking a standard room.

The suite was enormous. We had a super king bed, separate seating area with a big sofa, two massive TVs, two bathrooms and a huge balcony overlooking the pools and bar area towards the bay and port.

There were also blackout blinds, loads of storage, plenty of sockets, robes and slippers and separate air-conditioning controls for different parts of the suite. Even little details like fresh cut flowers beside the sinks made the room feel that bit more special, and the toiletries smelled gorgeous.

The two bathrooms were probably more useful than they had any right to be. Once you’ve experienced the two-bathroom hotel room life, it’s hard to go back.

The living room in the Arona Gran suite

One important caveat here is that I haven’t personally stayed in one of Arona Gran’s standard rooms. I’m not going to tell you they’re amazing based on photos on a booking website. Everything I’m describing here relates specifically to the suite we were upgraded to.

Is Spring Arona Gran Hotel in a good location in Los Cristianos?

For our Tenerife trip, the location was pretty much ideal.

Spring Arona Gran sits on the seafront in Los Cristianos, with the promenade directly outside. At a leisurely pace, we could walk into the main part of Los Cristianos in around ten minutes, and there are several beaches along the promenade too.

The hotel next door was closed during our August 2026 stay, which initially made this particular stretch feel slightly separated from everything else. That feeling disappeared as soon as we stepped onto the promenade. It was busy and vibrant, and we never felt uneasy walking around.

We even booked a kayaking tour from a local operator along the promenade and headed out into the bay. Our guide Simon was brilliant, particularly with a few members of the group who struggled and needed some extra help getting back to shore. We spotted plenty of marine life while we were out there too.

Is Los Cristianos a good base for exploring Tenerife by car?

This was actually one of the biggest advantages of staying here.

We didn’t come to Tenerife intending to spend seven days lying beside a swimming pool. We hired a car and used Los Cristianos as our base for trips around the island, including Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, Teide and Roques de García.

Arona Gran gave us an anchor to come back to every evening. We could spend the day hiking or driving around Tenerife, then return to the hotel, shower, have a massive dinner and relax.

Access to the main roads is only a short drive away, so we never felt like staying in Los Cristianos was making it harder to see the rest of Tenerife.

It’s one of the main reasons I’d recommend the hotel to someone visiting Tenerife for the first time. You don’t have to decide between a resort holiday and an exploring holiday. We effectively did both.

Does Spring Arona Gran Hotel have parking?

There isn’t a private hotel car park, so if you’re planning to hire a car, you’ll be relying on free street parking around the hotel.

That concerned me slightly before the trip, especially because we were travelling in August. In reality, it caused us no problems whatsoever. We regularly parked practically outside, sometimes around 50 metres from the hotel entrance.

Street parking obviously can’t be guaranteed and another week could be busier, but based on our own seven-night stay, having a hire car here was remarkably easy.

What’s breakfast like at Spring Arona Gran Hotel?

Oh, the breakfast.

This is probably one of the first things I’d talk about if someone asked me about Arona Gran. It’s buffet-style, absolutely massive and varied enough that I wasn’t bored of it by day seven.

You’ve got everything from continental options to cooked breakfasts, fresh fruit, juices, coffee and an incredible pastry selection. Different elements changed throughout the week too, rather than us waking up to exactly the same spread every morning.

And as a vegetarian, I ATE.

There were tonnes of options every morning. At no point did I feel like the vegetarian choice was an afterthought, and I definitely ate considerably more for breakfast than I normally would at home. Put that much food in front of me and apparently all self-restraint disappears.

Drinks were included with breakfast during our half-board stay, and there was even sparkling wine available for anyone wanting to start their Tenerife morning with bubbles.

No judgement here.

Is half-board at Spring Arona Gran Hotel worth it for vegetarians?

This was something I was particularly interested in before staying because seven nights of hotel buffet food can go one of two ways when you don’t eat meat.

Thankfully, dinner was fab.

The buffet changed every evening with different themes and dishes, so we didn’t feel like we were eating the same meal seven nights in a row. More importantly, I wasn’t left wandering around trying to construct dinner from chips, bread and a sad side salad.

There was loads for me to eat as a vegetarian, and once again I found myself eating considerably more than I normally would because it was hard to walk past that many different dishes without wanting to sample them.

Then there was dessert. Ice cream, cakes, fruit, chocolate fountains. The papaya was SO good.

Wednesday was gala dinner night during our stay, when everyone was welcomed with a glass of bubbles. There was technically a dress code at dinner, although it didn’t appear to be enforced particularly aggressively. We saw people wearing sports tops, for example.

This definitely wasn’t giving the time Lebua in Bangkok wouldn’t let us onto the rooftop for a drink until we went away and put trousers on.

One thing to budget for is drinks at dinner. Breakfast drinks were included with our half-board stay, but drinks with dinner were charged separately.

Would I choose half-board again? Absolutely.

What are the swimming pools and sunbed situation like at Spring Arona Gran Hotel?

Arona Gran has two large main swimming pools plus a smaller jacuzzi pool with different settings. One of the main pools is heated throughout the year.

What surprised me most wasn’t actually the pools themselves. It was the lack of sunbed warfare.

We stayed in August, so I’d fully prepared myself for people appearing at ridiculous o’clock to claim loungers with towels. Yet at virtually any point in the day, we managed to walk down and find two loungers together without any trouble.

Obviously I can’t promise you’ll have exactly the same experience on every date, but across an entire week in August we never struggled.

Fresh pool towels were available through a towel-card system too, so there was no need to pack our own or bring bathroom towels downstairs.

There’s also a premium UP! rooftop area at Arona Gran with additional facilities. We didn’t have access during this trip, so I’m deliberately not going to tell you whether I think the upgrade is worth paying for.

Does Spring Arona Gran Hotel have a good gym?

This might genuinely be one of the best hotel gyms I’ve used.

Hotel gyms can be tragic. You walk in and find a treadmill, three dumbbells and a lonely exercise bike facing a wall. The gym at Arona Gran felt much more like a proper gym that happened to be inside a hotel.

There were resistance machines covering different muscle groups, a full dumbbell set-up, benches, racks and plenty of cardio equipment. There were also dedicated areas for activities including yoga and spin.

A quick snap from the Arona Gran hotel gym. I didn't want to disturb other users so couldn't get the weights section in.

We trained a few times during our stay and it was never particularly crowded. We also got chatting to the woman running the gym, who was absolutely lovely.

If maintaining your normal training routine while travelling matters to you, this is one hotel where you don’t need to accept a massively compromised workout.

Arona Gran also has a Thalasso Spa. We didn’t use it, so I can’t give you a meaningful first-hand review of that side of the hotel.

What is the adults-only atmosphere at Spring Arona Gran Hotel like?

Arona Gran is an adults-only hotel for guests aged 16 and over, and you definitely notice the difference in atmosphere.

It isn’t a party hotel. The guests during our stay were actually pretty diverse, ranging from couples to older travellers and parents holidaying with their adult children. If I had to pick the most common group, though, I’d say couples.

What we didn’t encounter were huge groups dominating the pool or a loud party atmosphere.

Combined with the greenery and bright interiors, the adults-only set-up gives the hotel a relaxed feel despite its size. It worked really well for us as a couple because it felt grown-up without feeling overly formal.

What is the service and housekeeping like at Arona Gran Hotel?

Across seven nights, I genuinely couldn’t fault the staff.

Everyone we dealt with, from reception and restaurant staff to housekeeping and the gym team, was friendly, professional and happy to help. Our suite was freshened up every day and towels were replaced whenever needed.

It’s the sort of thing you don’t necessarily notice when everything is running smoothly, but staying somewhere for a full week gives plenty of opportunities for cracks to appear. We didn’t really encounter any.

The hotel itself also felt extremely clean and well maintained throughout our stay.

Is Spring Arona Gran Hotel noisy at night?

This brings me to the one element of the hotel that wasn’t really for me.

Arona Gran runs daytime activities and evening entertainment. Plenty of guests seemed to enjoy it, so I’m not going to pretend the entertainment itself was bad. I’m just really not a hotel-entertainment person.

Our suite overlooked the pool and entertainment area and I found it difficult to completely drown out the sound in the evening. The open design of the hotel seemed to carry noise particularly well, which is slightly ironic considering that same architecture is one of the things that makes the place look so impressive.

It didn’t ruin our stay by any stretch, but it’s something I’d want to know before booking.

If you’re sensitive to noise or have absolutely no interest in evening hotel entertainment, I’d ask about getting a room away from the main entertainment area. If you enjoy having a show downstairs every night, you’ll probably consider this a benefit rather than a negative.

Who should stay at Spring Arona Gran Hotel?

I’d recommend Arona Gran particularly strongly for couples looking for an adults-only hotel in Tenerife who don’t want to choose between having a proper resort and actually exploring the island.

You can very easily spend your days moving between breakfast, sun lounger, pool and dinner without putting much effort into your holiday at all. Everything you need for a relaxing week is already there.

But that’s not how we used it.

We’d disappear for the day, drive around Tenerife, hike, explore somewhere completely different and then come back to a comfortable room, huge buffet and resort facilities at night. On other days, we did very little beyond enjoying the hotel.

That flexibility is probably Arona Gran’s biggest selling point for me.

If you want nightlife and a big party atmosphere, I’d look elsewhere. Likewise, if organised hotel entertainment annoys you as much as it does me, I’d pay attention to your room location.

For a comfortable, adults-only Tenerife holiday where you can make things as lazy or adventurous as you want, however, it works brilliantly.

Would I stay at Spring Arona Gran Hotel again?

Do it.

We were incredibly lucky to win our stay, but we’ve already talked about returning to Arona Gran and actually paying for it ourselves. That probably tells you more about what I thought of the hotel than an arbitrary score out of ten ever could.

The location worked. Our suite was fantastic. We never struggled for a sunbed. The gym was one of the best I’ve found in a hotel. The food massively exceeded my expectations as a vegetarian, and Los Cristianos gave us an excellent base for seeing much more of Tenerife.

Most importantly, we needed a nice mix of relaxing stay and adventure base.

Arona Gran nailed the brief.

It worked brilliantly for us. We used Los Cristianos as our base for a Tenerife road trip and visited places including Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, Teide and Roques de García. Being able to explore during the day and return to a full resort in the evening was one of our favourite things about the trip.

Why you can trust this Spring Arona Gran Hotel review

I stayed at Spring Arona Gran Hotel for seven nights in August 2026 with my partner. During that week we ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel, used the pools and gym, explored Los Cristianos on foot and hired a car to travel around Tenerife.

Our stay was won by my partner in a Spring Hotels competition and wasn’t connected to Irish Travel Addict. Spring Hotels didn’t commission, sponsor or approve this review and had no input into what I’ve written.

We were upgraded from the standard room included with the prize to a suite because of availability when we arrived. I’ve therefore only reviewed the suite from personal experience and can’t speak to the hotel’s standard rooms.
